Dermal Fillers: An Overview of Applications

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin’s surface. Their primary purpose is to restore lost volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and enhance natural facial contours.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin’s surface. Their primary purpose is to restore lost volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and enhance natural facial contours.

Applications of Fillers

Here are common applications:

  • Smooth nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and forehead creases
  • Restore volume in areas such as the cheeks and temples
  • Add volume and shape to the lips
  • Define the jawline and chin
  • Minimize hollows under the eyes (tear troughs)

Filler Types

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

HA is a sugar molecule naturally found in the skin that binds water for hydration and volume. HA fillers are temporary and reversible, typically lasting 6 to 12 months before being metabolized by the body.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers

CaHA is a biocompatible substance found naturally in bones. It is thicker than HA and used for deeper wrinkles and folds. Results generally last about 12 months.

Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA)

PLLA is a synthetic, biodegradable substance that stimulates collagen production. Results develop over weeks and can last 2 years or more.

Charmost® Product Range

Charmost® offers a range of hyaluronic acid-based fillers with varying consistencies and cross-linking technologies for different treatment areas, including lips, under-eyes, and cheeks.

Treatment Process

  1. Consultation - Discussion with your provider about your goals and medical history to develop a treatment plan.
  2. Treatment - The area is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied. The provider injects small amounts of filler using fine needles or cannulas. The process often takes less than an hour.
  3. Recovery - Some temporary redness, swelling, or bruising is normal. Most people return to daily activities immediately, avoiding strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours.

Choosing a Provider

Results depend on the skill of the injector. Choose a provider who is medically licensed and has training in facial anatomy and injectable techniques.

Results and Longevity

Duration depends on the product used, treatment area, and individual metabolism. Follow-up treatments are recommended to maintain results.
